More Home Improvements

When we know we are not going to be in our house for too many more years, it is hard to do home improvements. However, we are thinking that it would be better to do the improvements while we can enjoy them instead of waiting until just before we have to move back.

Over Christmas break and the beginning of the year, Dana worked real hard on making the entryway from our garage into our kitchen looking nicer. At the door coming into the house from the garage there were three different floors visible. The entryway into the kitchen was wood floor, the bathroom directly across from the doorway was small white tiles with white grout (ugh! to clean) and the floor of the pantry/laundry room just to the left of the door was old, stained and faded linoleum. Dana took up all of the wood up to the door frame of the kitchen, using some of that wood to replace damaged wood in the kitchen. Then he busted out the tile in the half-bath, pulled up the linoleum in the pantry and scraped all of the glue off. When the floor was all ready, he put down the tile. Boy! Does it look great!:
Once the tile was down, he repainted the half-bath and helped me figure out exactly where to hang my pictures. As a final touch, he put up a shelf in a very clever spot (thanks, mom, for the idea). As you can see, I have not decorated the shelf yet, though Dana did find a knick-knack he slid up there. It doesn't look bad at all but now needs a few other things to compliment it (hey, mo-o-o-o-m!).
After all of this was done, he began to work on a funny little cabinet that was in our kitchen. The space was designed for cookie sheets, but since the opening was a little less than 2 inches wide, the space was not used. I tried it once...with one sheet...and could not get it out while holding on to it. I had to get some tongs to take the cookie sheet out!!!! So, Dana took the face of the cabinet off and cut a larger hole. Then he made a door to look like the rest of our cabinet doors and viola! I now have more room for my pans in the cabinets! Dana also added a shelf in another cabinet so I would not have so many bowls stacked one inside the other. It is wonderful!
