Family Photos

These are pictures taken on Christmas Day. Thought you might like to see how D and I are looking, too (ha, ha, ha):

Just the kids:

Funny Faces

D-D has been making some really funny faces...and poses...during our picture times. It all began in November of 2008. Here are some photos from that time. Keep your eyes on D-D (the youngest girl). If you want a closer view of her, click on the picture and the photo will come up large on your screen:

And then some from Christmas day when we went out, having D's sister take some family pictures:

We have some pretty hilarious (and somewhat frustrating) times during pictures. Everyone has strange faces once in a while, but D-D seems to more often than the others.

A Mom's Prayer

I got this prayer on Facebook and copied it. I can also place in it "girls," change a few more things around, and then pray this for my daughters as well. Thought that you might get some encouragement from this:

Thank you, God, for boys.

Little boys and big boys, and yes, that overgrown boy I sometimes see in the man I married.

Please keep my mind from criticizing them so often, my tongue from being so quick to scold them.

Give me the patience to listen to them. The wisdom to understand them. The spirit and humor to laugh with them. And the strength to sometimes endure them.

Give me the courage to differ with them and discipline them when I have to; but make me the kind of mother who can comfort them, help them, encourage them. Maybe even inspire them.

Above all, show me how to enjoy them--for only then can they be happy and enjoy themselves.

Thank you for them, God, and help me take good care of them.
God bless boys.
Amen.

Another parenting moment...worth several laughs:
Dana and I have often seen on tv as well as on YouTube a man named Tim Hawkins. He is Christian comedian and does several bits on different aspects of our lives: parenting, marriage, worship, moms, things going corporate, and several other topics. Here is the website to see his performance (abt 2 minutes long) "Tim Hawkins on Parenting" :

Slips of The Tongue

Our kids have really been making us giggle lately with their little speeches they make. Last Sunday was a great day for funny things.

At the van after Bible class, I was getting Z buckled up and Dana was working with D-D's seat belt. When she got into the van, she found one of E's toy "Craftsman" screwdrivers and was holding on to that while D leaned over her to fasten the belt. She began to poke his arm with the tool and said, "Wootch out! I'm needoling ewe!!!!" Dana explained to her that the tool was a screwdriver and it helped put screws into things, not needles. "Ooooohhhhh," she said and began to make shhhcckkkk, shhhckkkk, shhhckkk sounds as she moved the driver over his arm. Then she giggled and said, "Nay-yow, ewe are all scwewed up, Daddy!!"

Dana and I just looked at each other, smirked, then got in our seats and began the drive home. As soon as we started backing out of our parking spot, the discussion of what (and where) to eat for lunch began.

"Jason's Jelly!! Jason's Jelly!!!!" D-D begins exclaiming (this is Jason's Deli...one of our favorite places).

"I would like to eat at Mom's Place, " M-G says sweetly (that would mean at home).

E then makes his request for dinner at home, "I really like that Sesame Street Chicken!" Which means, lets order Chinese and eat it at home. Dana and I like this suggestion.

"Shhhhckkkk, shhhckkkk, shhhhckkkkk!!!" D-D says as she waves the screw driver all over the place, twisting her little hand and the tool all throughout the air. "Shhhcckkkkk!!! Shhckkkk!!! Shhhhcckkkkkk!!! Ole wight!!! I'm ole dunn! Nay-yow we are ole scwewed up!!"

Oh, the innocence of children!

Soon we are home and the kids have been instructed to go inside and get into play clothes as well as put up their other things (this last part is the hardest part...even for the kids' dear mother). I am in the girls' bedroom helping D-D get out of her dress and hang it back up. M-G comes in and is getting done her part when she stops and looks over to where E has his sleeping bag set up with toys and books making walls around it. "Mom?" she says as she looks at a book, "is that Sure Lucky Homeless one big story or lots of little ones?"

"I'm sorry? Say that again. please?" I say trying not to laugh.

"Sure Lock Homeless, " she says getting closer to the right name and asks her question again.

"The Sherlock Holmes book is filled with several mysteries and stories," I tell her.

She cannot say it right yet, but I am loving that she is still getting some things pronounced incorrectly. It makes her still seem little.

February Hike

Getting a bit close while the kiddoes played in the creek. They even found a "Waterfall!!!" which was only about a foot drop, if that! :) They were so excited.

I love seeing D-D in her sun glasses. The sun was very bright, so Z closed his eyes against it...and fell fast asleep.

I am not sure WHY this first picture in this row keeps turning itself sideways...it is not that way in my computer. But I thought I had better put it in anyway: they were holding hands as they walked! Then the middle picture I love: taking care of each other! The tree was huge and pretty against the blue sky, but, really, I just needed something to fill up that space. :)

Z woke up and after some snuggling with mom, he was ready to walk with dad...and his siblings, too.

Fun Times

Here are a few pictures of the kids (and the parents) acting goofy and crazy. I know that Dana will be so very happy that these are up, but they are too fun!

Dana and the kids were playing with the pipe cleaners. I love Dana's new glasses! Z, while D-D was putting a puzzle together, decided mom would look nice with the box as head gear. You can see his hand right under my chin. D-D wanted to get in on the silly fun of wearing the puzzle boxes.

We tried to snap a picture of them all getting along, sitting together watching a movie without pushing each other. MG decided to make a great face! The last picture of D-D is one of the reasons why I need a shirt or a button that says, "I let my kids dress themselves today!"

Baby Z was not too sure about his dad trying to take him to the gym, but he settled down once we got the camera out...he is a ham! E trying to be super AND tough!

I am not sure what MG and E are doing, but this picture makes me giggle. Baby Z, like our other three, enjoy the door into the changing table. He played here for 15 minutes the other night. It is a challenge to step over the wood piece and duck at the same time so there is no tripping or bonking of the head. He loves this challenge! He also loves taking out all of the diapers and wipes!
