Grandma's funeral was Monday, Sept. 21st and in Missourri. Her graveside service was in Dodge City, KS, on the following Wednesday. Though I was not able to make it in time for the funeral, I did make it to say goodbye to Grandma on Wednesday. It sounds funny to say that I was glad to be there, that I was thankful to see my aunts and uncles, reacquaint myself with some of my cousins, that I found pleasure in seeing the place where my grandparents grew up, my mom and her siblings were born and lived, the graves of family I--at times--resemble, but have never met...it, indeed, sounds strange to feel such positive emotions at a very sad time. These were some of those days where I understood once again the reason for the making of the word "bittersweet." That was what those two days were: bittersweet...and memorable...and at times downright fun and goofy. Here are some photos of our time together:
